Tablets news and announcements

  • Pre-Order Now: Galaxy Tab 2 (10.1)

Last month, the 7-inch Galaxy Tab 2 by Samsung started to trickle into stores, sycg as Best Buy, but the 10.1-inch model was nowhere to be found. Well, we have some great news today. Both Office Depot and Amazon are accepting pre-orders for the Galaxy Tab 2 (10.1).

  • ASUS Padfone Delayed Again?

Another day, another Padfone delay. It' starting to sound like vaporware, but every update (even the delays) seem to suggest the launch is definitely coming. After all, the constant flow of rumors, leaks and previews keep the hope alive. Now that it's May, you can obviously forget about that late April launch unless you live in Taiwan. We hear it's there in limited quantities.

The delay is caused by processor shortages, reports The Verge. As you may have heard, the tablet/phone combo is supposed to ship with a Snapdragon S4 by Qualcomm, but Samsung may have bought up the first available stock of the new CPU for the launch of the American Galaxy S III, which is supposed to feature the dual-core S4.

  • Get Your Galaxy Tab 2 (7.0) Right Now

Good news! The Galaxy Tab 2 (7.0) by Samsung is shipping to customers if you can find an online store that has stock. It's still a pretty fresh and somewhat rushed release, so it's slowly trickling into stores as you read this right now. Check out the Galaxy Tab 2 product page for an up-to-date list of buy links. The Galaxy Tab 2 (10) is scheduled for a later release.

  • Official: ASUS Transformer TF300T Now Actually Shipping

It's not another false alarm. We have some good news, and it's actually happening this time. The Transformer Pad TF300T by ASUS hit the streets over the weekend. Check out the TF300T product page for an up-to-date list of buy links.

  • Windows 8 Comes In Three Flavors

Windows 8 ships in three different editions. The regular, consumer edition is called Windows 8, but Windows 8 Pro includes some features that developers, IT professionals and tech nerds will appreciate. Those two editions of Windows 8 can run on devices that use x86 processors. Finally, Window RT is specifically for devices that use ARM processors, and you can only get it pre-installed on devices. That means you can't actually buy Windows 8 RT for other devices that don't already have it.

  • Now Available: ASUS Transformer Pad TF300T (32GB)

This is a welcome but unexpected surprise for the weekend. Office Depot has the ASUS Transformer TF300T in stock this weekend, and the Android 4.0 tablet has all the quad-core, Tegra 3 goodness you require. Of course, the TF300T ships with Wi-Fi b/g/n, Bluetooth 3.0, dual cameras, mini-HDMI and a 10-hour battery.

Sounds pretty good to us, and we'd be all over this ASUS tablet if we didn't have one already.

  • Pre-Order Now: Barnes and Noble's 2012 Nook Simple Touch

Barnes & Noble is now accepting pre-orders for the new Nook Simple Touch, a very welcome update to the Nook family of e-readers by Barnes and Noble. This one ships with an e-ink display to mimic the light-less properties of real paper and books, but you can turn on a night light for some late reading when everyone else is asleep.

The new Nook ships early May, according to the company.

  • Galaxy Note 10.1 Release Details Emerge

When Samsung originally announced the specs for the Galaxy Note 10.1 Android tablet, the company said the device would ship with a 1.4GHz, daul-core processor, but it will now receive a quad-core upgrade as a response to the popularity of quad-core processors on the market this year. Unfortunately, that means Samsung will push the Galaxy Note 10.1's release back to June in order to accommodate the upgrade, says Korean newspaper MK, but it's clearly a necessary upgrade for the tablet to remain relevant in 2012.

  • Did Steve Jobs Really Hate Android That Much?

Jobs's approved biographer, swears the hate was legit, and he was ready to do whatever it takes to destroy Android. Marketing talk to sell books or real truth? It's impossible to say, but we can take a look at the facts. For example, we know that Jobs mentored Larry Page as a company and business pioneer. The two were pals.

So was the feud real? What we know is that both Apple and Google are far more successful now than ever, and Jobs was a genius at high-quality marketing. Honestly, it sounds like we all got played while Jobs and Google's Larry Page laughed all the way to the bank. And who's the genuine loser after everything is settled? Microsoft, the original target of Jobs's immeasurable hate from back in the day when Microsoft supposedly stole Apple's original PC UI.
