Electronics news and announcements

  • Japan Gets A Galaxy S III With 2GB of RAM

This is incredibly unfair. Japan's NTT Docomo gets a version of the Galaxy S III with 2GB of RAM while the rest of the world only gets 1GB. In either case, that's a lot of RAM, but we'd really better hardware in the West too.

  • LG Optimus Elite On Virgin Mobile

Good news! The LG Optimus Elite is also available through Virgin Mobile for $150!

  • Reuters and Wall Street Journal: iPhone 5 Will Have 4-Inch Display

Seemingly out of nowhere, both the Wall Street Journal and Reuters published articles that support the existence of Apple's 4-inch iPhone 5. Prior to the iPhone 5, Apple refused to increase the iPhone's display size past 3.5 inches, but best-selling handsets from Samsung, LG and Sony feature display sizes closer to 5 inches. Clearly, a very large segment of the market prefers a larger display, so many expected Apple to make this move.

Of course, the problem with increasing the display past 3.5-4 inches is that users find it much more difficult to perform the majority of the phone's tasks with one hand. Apple's preference for a smaller display results from the company's desire to make the iPhone easy to use with a single thumb, and that should remain true for most hands with Apple's new display size.

Apple's manufacturing partners begin full-scale production of the iPhone in June, so a release should occur between August and October.

  • Request Denied! Sprint's EVO 4G LTE Is Delayed Indefinitely

Yesterday, we were under the impression that Sprint was shipping out its latest Android flagship this week, but that won't happen now. Due to legal issues, Sprint's EVO 4G LTE cannot be sold in the United States. This delay is indefinite. We'll keep an eye out for more details. Stay tuned!

  • Canon Plans to Announce Two Important Cameras in June

In addition to a few updates to its point-and-shoot family, Canon will announce the features, specs and names of two important cameras in June, reports Canon Rumors. Perhaps the most anticipated of the two is the company's entry into the mirror-less-camera game. The other seems to be the EOS 650D. Photography Bay seems to believe it's the successor to the Rebel T3i, which we have known as the Rebel T4i.

  • ABC News: Some MacBook Pro and iMac Rumors Are True

Apple will release an upgraded iMac and thinner MacBook Pro, reports ABC News. The new machines will ship with USB 3.0 ports, Retina Displays and the next-gen Intel "Ivy Bridge" processors. If Apple plans to release this new family of Macs soon, analysts and commentators believe the announcement would occur during the World Wide Developer's Conference on June 11th.

  • LG Optimus 4X HD Ships June

LG says the Optimus 4X HD ships June, though the company hasn't specified a day.

  • Now Shipping: Sprint's EVO 4G LTE by LG

It's about time! The EVO 4G LTE by LG is now shipping, but it's not yet available in physical stores. That won't happen until the 18th, which is about when your package should arrive on your doorstep if you pre-ordered. If you didn't pre-order, you can still reserve yours online through the Sprint store.

  • Now Available: LG's Optimus Elite for Sprint

Flying in below the radar, the LG Optimus Elite for Sprint is available a few days before its official release date. It's not a high-profile release, so we understand Sprint's lax attitude. No matter the reason, an early release is always better than a delay.

Considering the (proabably unintentional) early release, we doubt this phone will be available at Sprint retail locations until the official day, but the Sprint online store says the phone is available and shipping.

  • Sony Xperia P Launch Is Imminent

Expansys describes the The Xperia P's smartdock as in stock. We can only assume that the phone itself is about to hit stores too.
